I'm bored at work, so I'm sitting here figuring things out and doing calculations like I always do in my spare time, and I've come across something that doesn't work out. In Garrett's catalog the GT28R is listed as being good for the same amount of power as the big trim GT22 (both claim to be good for up to 280 hp). However when you look at the maps for both turbos, the flow rate doesn't look to be even close. The GT22 looks like it flows around 405 cfm, good for ~270 hp, while the GT28R looks like it flows about 500 cfm, good for ~333hp, which is a bit bigger than a GT2530, and slightly larger than a PE1420. Doing rough calculations going by the maps in the catalog, a Z with GT22's can put down about 442 rwhp while a Z with GT28R's can put down about 547 rwhp. Also keep in mind that these numbers are the official Garrett numbers, and people can usually squeeze out a little bit more power than that. Why the discrepancy between Garrett's HP figures and their corresponding maps?
